Basic Life Support

November 21, 2006

This morning we had our Basic Life Support (BLS) practical exams. It consist of CPR/Rescue Breathing for both infants and adults. I was the first trainee who took the infant BLS. i was a bit nervous despite my extensive training on this skill since Third Year High School. Anyway, i think i performed well. The CPR was a bit disappointing because i was not able to hit the 2-minute time requirement, i did it for 2 minutes and 5 seconds and points were deducted. The preceptor gave me a final score of 93. I did a survey of the scores of my other colleagues who took the test. Most of them scored 95. I was really disappointed knowing that i had no other mistake aside from the time limit that i was not able to meet. I asked my preceptor about my score. She recomputed it and found out that she made a mistake. My final score therefore is 98/100. Hehehe i believe it's the highest score given for that particular test.

My CPR for adults was not outstanding. Again, i was not able to perform it on time. I was a bit fast. I finished the chest compressions for 1 minute and 51 seconds (2 minutes is the required time). It's okay though. At least i passed.

After my training, me and Horsy went to PRC to get my final score on the board exams. It was 0.80% higher than the published scores released before.

St. Luke’s

October 30, 2006

My interest in working at St. Luke's was revived this morning. Our speaker for the Patient Safety Protocols was truly inspiring. She taught us not just how to keep up with the standards of nursing practice, but also how to love our work as nurses.

October 17, 2006

i hate this day. the worst so far, as long as the NSET is concerned. i was not able to answer the lecturer's question: What are the two kinds of mitten? Duh! Not even my batchmates at UST can answer such a lousy question! i must not lose composure. i don't need to be stubborn just because of that stupid question. hehe

Thank You NSET

October 15, 2006

Our training at the St. Luke's Medical Center is composed of 62 registered nurses from all over the Philippines. It was only the second day when our moderator Ma'am Kaye announced the holding of the election of the officers of the first NSET Batch under the Division of Nursing - Department of Clinical Advancement. Brigette (Perpetual Help College - Manila Batch 05) nominated me as president. There were no other nominations presented. The moderator asked the trainees to stand if they are giving their vote for me. All except two stood. They have given their own nominations for the post. And so there are three nominees for president. When i introduced myself everyone just started shouting "No Retake!." It was funny. I told them that i go  for no retake too. During the vote, i received an overwhelming majority with only around 15 votes not counted in my name. Then i assumed the post with the other officers elected: Archie (FEU - Batch 03) as vice president; Jenny (Trinity - Batch 05) as treasurer.

Thank You NSET people.

INTEGRITY

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true.
